Body
Ping g2 Anser putter
Club:Ping G2 Anser D putter black dot,34 inches
Shaft:Ping steel
Grip:Ping palm lock
Looks:Ping has built it's lofty reputation on
putters. There is probably no self respecting golfer who has never owned
or at least experimented with a Ping model putter at some stage.Classics
like the Pal,MyDay and Anser have all been updated and revamped as Ping
has changed models and head materials.Stainless steel is still the preferred
head material for most manufacturers and this is the case here. This Anser
model is remarkably similar to the classic older model with it's heel
and toe weighting and classic lines. The Ping Anser was the inspiration
for most modern putters and it's easy to see why.The heavy satin finished
head sits square and flat behind the ball, inspiring confidence. The club
does not fan open (a fault in the Titleist Futura for one) and the lines
and edges are rounded and soft and finished with aplomp.A single black
alignment line in the cavity is all you get to line things up.The grip
is a fine one, thick enough to eliminate unnecessary hand movement that
will lead to inconsistency, but also providing a sure feel and grip of
the club. The non glare head looks compact and the leading edge is bevelled
a little (this helps to eliminate the head getting snagged up in grass, particulary
around the fringe). It's hard to fault.
Marks:(out of 10 ) 10
Performance:The heavy head makes swinging this
putter a treat. You don't need to force your stroke on long putts to get
the ball to the hole.Putts of 30-40 feet all seem to end up 2-3 feet from
the hole. The single sight line may seem light by modern standards, but
because of the clean, square lines it works a treat and short putts seem
easy to line up and drop in.Fringe grass presents no problem because of
the heavy head and rounded edges (the new Nike Oz mallet is one putter
that is weak in this area).Feel is solid if not supersoft like the insert
putters from Odyssey and even the IsoPur from Ping, but is in no way harsh.Mishits
hold their line well and feedback (the ability to distinguish mishits
from pure strikes) is good.A forgiving putter for the high handicapper, but
plenty of feel for the low shooter,it's impressive.

Value:At approx 110$ this is a bargain.Plenty
of resale value and trade-in worth make this a must try. Marks:10
Verdict:This is a high class putter at a fine price.All the feel,forgiveness
and looks you could ask for.Low handicappers will probably still opt for
Scotty Cameron models and the Odyssey line for status reasons alone. They
would be advised to look here first though and save the prive of a few
dozen pro v1's!
