Golf Information
Body
Ping G2 3 wood
Club:Ping G2 3 wood 14 degree loft black dot
Shaft:TCF 100 stiff flex
Grip:Ping cord spiral
Looks:The head is relative large in size and
black in colour to match the Si3 driver. This is a steel headed club and
steel remains the material of choice for fairway woods as it is heavier
than titanium and fairway woods benefit from extra weight. Also the clubhead
does not need to be as large and steel is much less expensive than titanium.
This is a much better looking club than either of Ping's last 2 fairway
woods (the tiny but excellent i3 and the larger and extremely expensive
but long hitting Ti3).It has a deep clubface (similar to Callaway steelhead
3 and deeper than low profile models such as Orlimar trimetal and Adams
models).Like the Si3 driver there is a medallion at the back which is
not to be seen at address and the JZ hosel. The club is crescent shaped
from above, but does not look ugly or unwieldy. There is a ball shaped alignment
aid on the crown(not dissimilar to the one used on TaylorMade drivers)
which looks and works very well.
The hosel is near the face and the soleplate looks heavier at the rear
than at the the front, which is usually designed to get the ball airborne
quicker and with less spin.Overall this club is finished beautifully and
oozes Ping class out of every pore.

Performance:This club feels very light in the
hands, but well balanced. It sits very square behind the ball and you feel
as if you can get after the ball and really hit it.Sound at impact is
sweet and metallic and the ball soars off on a nice high trajectory and
with fine carry distance, even for a relatively strong 14 degree loft (most
3 woods are 15 or 16 degrees in loft).
Mishits are not punished too harshly, although shots off the heel struggle
to get any great yardage. This club performs excellently from rough even
though it feels light and the deep face prevents pop up shots from balls
that sit up on grassy lies (you know the ones that leave those nasty skymarks
on the crown of the club!).
Because of it's strong loft it makes a fine alternative to the driver
on tight par 4's and 5's and those 200 yard plus par 3's which sadly are
becoming all too popular on many modern tracks.
There are no problems hitting shaped shots for the low handicapper and
an added bonus is that this club can also easily perform the little chip
shot around the green (the ones the pros often play).Overall very impressive.

Value:In both steel and graphite this club represents
superb value versus it's competitors (TaylorMade v-steel,Callaway GBB2,Titleist
980F) and resale value is good on all Ping clubs. There is a simplified
fitting option (standard and 2 degree both flat and upright) that should
suit most players.
Marks:9
Verdict:This is a fine club that will appeal to all standards of player.Custom
fit will give you a club that may well be a keeper in your bag.Low
handicappers may find premium low torque (club will twist less at impact)
more to their liking and the Ping WRX program provides them.
